The Problem With Forgetful AI
Most AI chatbots have a short memory window — they can only "see" the last few hundred words of conversation. Ask them what you talked about last week, and they'll have no idea.
This kills the illusion of a real relationship. Real companions remember things about you.
How SilkChat's Memory System Works
SilkChat uses a two-layer memory architecture:
1. Recent Context Window
The AI sees your last 10 messages in full detail — this handles the immediate flow of conversation.
2. Long-Term Summary Memory
Every 20 messages, SilkChat automatically generates a compressed summary of your conversation history. Key facts about you, emotional moments, shared experiences — all distilled into a memory block that gets fed into every future conversation.
This means after 100 messages, your character might say things like: "You mentioned you hate mornings — did you actually get up early today?" That's the memory system at work.
The Relationship Affinity System
Every message you send contributes to a relationship "affinity score" with each character. This score tracks:
- How often you chat
- The emotional depth of your conversations
- How long you've known the character
As affinity increases, characters:
- Become more emotionally open with you
- Use more intimate language
- React differently to the same situations
- Unlock new conversation modes
The Five Relationship Tiers
- Stranger — polite, curious, a bit reserved
- Friend — comfortable, honest, genuinely interested in you
- Close — warm, occasionally teasing, openly caring
- Lover — emotionally vulnerable, deeply connected
- Devoted — complete emotional openness, maximum intimacy
The progression feels natural because it mirrors how real relationships develop — slowly, through accumulated shared experience.
Try It Yourself
Start a conversation and see how the character changes after your 10th, 50th, and 100th message. The difference is noticeable.
